Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP™)

  1. Antimicrobial rinses and antibiotic medications may be prescribed for you. Take any prescribed medications according to directions and continue taking until all meds are gone. Reduce physical activity for 48 hours following surgery.
  2. Periodontal laser procedures usually result in little or no discomfort following surgery. If an anti-inflammatory drug (Advil, Motrin, Anaprox) has been prescribed please take as directed to help keep swelling to a minimum.
  3. For the first 24-hour period immediately following surgery, stay on a liquid diet only. For the following 5-7 days after surgery, a soft diet is recommended. Try to eat soft but nutritious foods such as eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, malts, ice cream, etc. Stay away from spicy and "chippy" foods. It is also important to maintain good fluid intake during this period.
  4. Carefully avoid chewing food in the areas of the mouth where the laser has been used for at least one week following surgery. One of the most important results of laser surgery is the blood clots that form following surgery. It is extremely important not to dislodge the tiny clots that form in and around the gums.
  5. Avoid Listerine & alcoholic beverages (for at least 3 days) since they may cause breakdown of blood clots. NO SMOKING for 3 days following surgery!
  6. Do not be alarmed with any color changes or appearance of tissues following laser therapy. Tissues can be gray, yellow, red, blue, purple, "stringy" and reflect normal response to laser treatments.
  7. It is OK to spit, rinse, and wash your mouth today. Rinse as directed with Peridex or Periogard morning and night. In between it is OK to rinse gently every three (3) hours with warm salt water (1/2 teaspoons of salt dissolved in an 8 oz. glass of warm water). Do not brush or floss the teeth in the treated area until instructed to do so.
  8. Try to keep your mouth as clean as possible in order to help the healing process. Brush, floss, and follow other home-care measures in all the areas of your mouth except for the surgerized area.
  9. Do not apply excessive tongue or cheek pressure to the surgerized area.
  10. Do not be alarmed if one of the following occurs:
    • Light bleeding
    • Slight swelling
    • Some soreness, tenderness, or tooth sensitivity
    • Medicinal taste, from Peridex or Periogard
  11. Please call the office if you are experiencing any of the following signs and symptoms:
    • Prolonged or severe pain
    • Prolonged or excessive bleeding
    • Considerably elevated or persistent temperature.
  12. A surgical pack may have been placed to prevent food, trauma, and/or smoke from irritating the surgerized tissues. If a piece of the pack falls out or if the entire pack loosens or falls out, do not be alarmed.
  13. Do not be alarmed that beginning with just 2 weeks after therapy and extending as long as months, the teeth may become sore, tender, or sensitive as the bone and ligaments around the teeth regenerate and become more firm. This is a sign of healing, but may also indicate the presence of a bite imbalance that may need to be adjusted.
  14. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call!

GC MI Paste Plus

For use by or under the supervision of a dental professional in the recommended indications.

Description:

GC MI Paste Plus is a water-based creme containing Recaldent™ with incorporated fluoride (CPP-ACPF: Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous Calcium Phosphate Fluoride). The level of fluoride is 0.2% w/w, (900ppm), which approximates that in adult strength toothpastes. When CPP-ACPF is applied in the oral environment, it will bind to biofilms, plaque, bacteria, hydroxyapatite and soft tissue localising bio-available calcium, phosphate and fluoride. GC MI Paste Plus is lactose-free.

Important:

Saliva will enhance the effectiveness of CPP-ACPF and the flavour will help stimulate saliva flow. The longer CPP-ACPF and saliva are maintained in the mouth, the more effective the result. A topical paste containing bio-available calcium, phosphate and fluoride:

  1. provides extra protection for teeth.
  2. helps neutralize acid challenges from acidogenic bacteria in plaque.
  3. helps neutralize acid challenges from other internal and external acid sources.

Contraindications:

Casein phosphopeptides are derived from milk casein. Do not use this material on patients with a proven or suspected milk protein allergy and/or with a sensitivity or allergy to benzoate preservatives.

Directions for Use Indications:

  1. Following in-office bleaching procedures.
  2. After ultrasonic, hand scaling or root planning.
  3. Following professional tooth cleaning (P.T.C.).
  4. Hypersensitivity prevention and control.
  5. As an alternative means of applying fluoride topically in children aged 6 and above.
  6. During orthodontic treatment.
  7. For high risk caries patients.
  8. To provide a topical coating for patients suffering from erosion, xerostomia or Sjögrens syndrome.
  9. For special needs adult patients.

In-Office Application:

  1. Custom tray application
    1. Before use rinse the custom tray thoroughly under running water.
    2. Extrude a generous layer of GC MI Paste Plus into the tray and apply to the upper and/or lower teeth.
    3. Leave the tray undisturbed in the mouth for a minimum of 3 minutes.
    4. Remove the tray.
    5. Instruct the patient to use the tongue to spread the remaining GC MI Paste Plus throughout the mouth. Instruct the patient to retain for as long as possible (another 1-2 minutes) avoiding expectoration and delaying swallowing. The longer GC MI Paste Plus and saliva are maintained in the mouth, the more effective the result.
    6. Ask the patient to expectorate thoroughly and if possible avoid rinsing. Any GC MI Paste Plus remaining on the surface can be left to gradually dissipate. Advise the patient not to eat or drink for 30 minutes following application.
    7. Any residual GC MI Paste Plus in the tray should be rinsed or brushed off under running water immediately after use.
  1. Non-tray application:
    1. If necessary, remove any excess saliva on the tooth surface with a cotton roll or pellet. However, it is NOT necessary to dry the teeth with compressed air.
    2. Apply GC MI Paste Plus to the tooth surfaces using an application swab, gloved finger or in difficult interproximal areas using an Interproximal Tooth Cleaning Brush.
    3. Leave GC MI Paste Plus undisturbed for a minimum of 3 minutes.
    4. Then instruct the patient to use the tongue to spread the remaining GC MI Paste Plus throughout the mouth. Request the patient to hold in the mouth for as long as possible (an additional 1-2 minutes) avoiding expectoration and delaying swallowing. The longer GC MI Paste Plus and saliva are maintained in the mouth, the more effective the result.
    5. Ask the patient to expectorate thoroughly and if possible avoid rinsing. Any GC MI Paste Plus remaining on the surface can be left to gradually dissipate. Advise the patient not to eat or drink for 30 minutes following application.

At-home application:

  1. Day time application after tooth brushing as recommended by a dental professional
    1. Apply a sufficient amount of GC MI Paste Plus to upper and lower teeth. A pea size amount for each arch is the minimum required. The material should be applied to the tooth surfaces using a clean dry finger or cotton tip. For difficult areas (between the teeth) use an Interproximal Tooth Cleaning Brush or dental floss coated with GC MI Paste Plus.
    2. Leave GC MI Paste Plus on the teeth undisturbed for a minimum of 3 minutes.
    3. Then use your tongue to spread the remaining GC MI Paste Plus throughout the mouth. Hold in the mouth for as long as possible (a further 1-2 minutes) avoiding expectoration (spitting out) and delaying swallowing. The longer GC MI Paste Plus and saliva are maintained in the result.
    4. Expectorate thoroughly and if possible avoid rinsing. Any GC MI Paste Plus remaining on the surface can be left to gradually dissipate. Do not eat or drink for 30 minutes following application.
  1. Night time application after tooth brushing as recommended by a dental professional

Note: The overnight use is especially recommended for high-risk adult patients, but not recommended for children under 12.

Opalescence Home Bleach Instructions

  1. Follow your dentist's instructions on how to load gel into your custom bleaching tray. Use no more than 1/3 to 1/2 of syringe.
  2. Brush teeth, then insert tray. Lightly tap tray to adapt tray sides to teeth. Opalescence 10%, 15%, 20%: Remove tray after 8-10 hours during the night, or 4-6 hours during the day. Opalescence 35%: Remove tray from mouth after 30 minutes.
  3. Remove excess gel with clean finger or soft toothbrush. Rinse twice; do not swallow rinses.
  4. If significant sensitivity occurs, stop treatment and consult dentist. Clean tray with soft brush and cool tap water. Store tray in case provided.
  5. Nonvital Bleaching: Irrigate opening as instructed by dentist. Place gel into lingual access and tray.

Bleaching Precautions:

  1. Do not use household bleach to whiten teeth.
  2. Pregnant women should not bleach.
  3. Keep gel out of heat/sunlight. Do not freeze.
  4. Tooth fillings and crowns do not respond to tooth bleaching.
  5. Foods and juices high in acid may cause sensitivity.
  6. If you have any questions regarding the appropriate use of this product, please consult your dentist as soon as possible.
  7. Do not use tobacco products or eat while bleaching.

General Precautions:

  1. Teeth are naturally darker along the gum line. These areas may require more time to lighten than the rest of the tooth surface and usually remain slightly darker.
  2. A small percentage of patients experience sensitivity with bleaching. Should this occur, remove the tray and contact your dentist.
  3. Foods and juices high in citric acid can cause sensitivity to the teeth.
  4. Some patients have noticed temporary discomfort of the gums, lips, throat, or tongue. Should any of these symptoms persist more than two days or progressively worsen, call your dentist. These side effects will usually subside within 1-3 days after treatment is discontinued.
  5. Coffee, tobacco, and other products can re-stain your teeth over time. Should this occur, the teeth can be re-whitened within a few nights with Opalescence.
  6. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are important before and after bleaching to maintain a healthy smile.
  7. If you have any questions pertaining to this treatment, please ask your dentist.
  8. Some old amalgam or "silver" fillings may leave a dark purple color in your bleaching tray; this is normal.
  9. Store bleach out of the sun and heat.
  10. Discard any unused bleaching gel after treatment is completed.
  11. Keep Opalescence out of reach of small children.
  12. Do not swallow gel or rinses. Product contains peroxide and may contain fluoride; swallowing large amounts can be harmful.
